Time running out for Straw's motor bill

Jack Straw MP’s Motor Insurance Regulation Bill is to have its second reading in the House of Commons today although there is little prospect of it becoming law.

Mr Straw introduced his private member's Bill on 13 September last year with the aim of reforming the regulation and operation of the market in motor insurance. The five sections include banning referral fees and new measures to combat the increase in whiplash claims.

For the latter Mr Straw proposed that anyone involved in an accident at less than 15 miles per hour would be assumed not to have suffered a whiplash injury.
