Having taken an overview of the market Aviva’s Phil Bayles looks in detail at how to prepare succession plans that meet the needs of staff and customers.

According to the insurer's chief distribution officer for intermediaries, brokers have made "big strides in terms of succession planning and talent identification".

However, he warns that there is a "mixed bag" in terms of preparation.

"Broking is very much a people business, if you don't identify the best people and keep them then your business won't succeed," he comments.
