Lembit Opik tells brokers to be "less risk averse"

Politician Lembit Opik has urged Lloyd's brokers to be "less risk averse" and instead encourage mavericks to work in insurance.

The former Liberal Democrat MP warned that insurance "can look a little grey" and therefore fail to attract potential innovators and entrepreneurs to the profession. 

It follows Mr Opik's decision to work with City-based firm Leadenhall Consulting in a bid to help train insurance professionals.

And speaking to Insurance Age, he explained: "What we are saying is be more risk intelligent, stop and think about the actual risk of having mavericks in your business - we don‘t want them to be risk
