Intriguingly, Ipswich once had its own underground system that was part-funded by Joseph Stalin. The town was also home to many insurers and independent brokers but, as in many parts of the country, over the years the insurance landscape has changed dramatically there: Suffolk's county town used to boast high street names such as Commercial Union, Phoenix, General Accident, Guardian and Legal and General.
