Accountant as its chief executive? When insurers were controlled by
underwriters, their business made sense, but all that the directors and
principal officials now look at, it seems, is the bottom line of the
account.


Guardian Royal Exchange's chief executive, who has propounded
"independence" and "concentration on niche business", has had a sudden
change of heart and put the GRE up for sale. Yet only recently there were
proposals
