Commercial lawsuits jump 9.6% as credit crunch litigation starts to rise
Research by City law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain reveals 70,199 civil law cases were launched in the High Court in 2008.
The number of commercial cases launched in the High Court jumped 9.6% last year, fed by a rise in credit crunch litigation, according to research by City law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain.
RPC's review of the latest Judicial Statistics revealed that 70,199 civil law cases were launched in the High Court in 2008, up from 64,046 in 2007. According to the law firm the rise was partly driven by an increase in creditors pursuing debt-related claims through the courts.
